MEMORIAL FUND
IN MEMORY OF
NEIL RIVERS, JR.
In 2006, Essex Baseball/Softball established a Memorial Fund in memory of Neil Rivers, Jr. Neil Rivers, Jr. played baseball in the Essex program from the time he was 5 years old until he was 17. He also played as a 16 year old with Team Toyota for one year. Neil was a team player, a kind and sincere individual. His leadership qualities, his competitiveness, and his desire to win always placed him in a position of respect with anyone who knew him. He gave 100% at all times on the field and always made sure his teammates did too. He went to Kenwood High School and played 3 sports, baseball, soccer and wrestling. He was the 2002 Athlete of the year.
Anyone who knew Neil, knew he was a dedicated, passionate, enthusiastic, and cheerful baseball player who was a pleasure to work with. I am sure that all of his coaches throughout his years at Essex could tell a story or two about this incredible young man who we will all lovingly miss.
It is with deep sadness at the loss of such an individual who was shot and killed at his own Essex home during an act of violence and to honor his memory and as a small token of our love for Neil's family, we established the Memorial Fund.
The fund was established to collect donations of any type to be used to help indigent and other financially deficit youth (under the age of 19) or youth teams who wish to participate in athletic sports in the Essex Recreation programs by purchasing for them sporting good needs, such as bats, mitts, balls, shoes, uniforms, registration fees, etc. An application form must be prepared to be submitted by each individual seeking our help, an investigation will take place to make sure that the individual does have a financial need, and then a purchase will be made through the fund.
If anyone is interested in making a donation. Please send your check or money order to: Essex Baseball/Softball Fund, Inc. and mail to 10915 Red Lion Road, White Marsh, MD 21162. Click on Donation for additional information for mailing your contribution to the fund.
